This collection of patches works with OSCeleton to get data from the Kinect camera via OSC. Also in progress are Ubuntu/Debian packages for installing OpenNI, and NITE. You can find that fledgling effort here:

To setup things for this patch, add this ppa to your synaptic: ppa:eighthave/openni and run:

sudo apt-get install osceleton libopenni-dev openni-sensor-primesense-kinect primesense-nite-nonfree
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/primesense-nite-nonfree/openni-module-primesense-nite-nonfree_1.3.1.5-1_i386.deb
