Discord
Note: If you just created your Discord account, you'll need to wait a couple of hours before you can join the server. This is an anti-bot security measure. If you got banned due to this, it's an IP ban, so you'll also be banned on your original account. Contact our community administrator Bently (@bentlybro) if you're locked out and he'll sort you out.
The public AutoGPT Discord guild serves multiple purposes:
- Connecting users with fellow users, to exchange experiences and insights
- Providing users with a direct help line if the documentation is of no help
- Providing a communication channel for people who are actively contributing to the project, accelerating coordination and development
- Connecting users with developers, allowing them to get advanced technical support, which also serves as useful feedback for the developers
- Connecting developers with users; giving them insight into the target audience
- Providing the development team with a testing/proving ground for new features
If you have read the user documentation but still need help with setting up or using AutoGPT, we have two dedicated channels to assist you:
- # 💬 help, where community members will try to help you with your issue.
- # 🤖 ask-agpt-docs, where an AI assistant will answer your questions to the best of its ability based on the user documentation.
Please don't post in the #dev- channels with questions about setting up or using the application. We do our best to be helpful, and reserve the right to remove off-topic posts.
Discord is great for information that is more transient:
- touching base and chatting with other users / devs
- getting help / figuring out problems together
- discussing ideas
- hanging out in the voice/video chat rooms
- discussing development topics
GitHub is great for more-persistent information.
- filing a bug / feature-request issue (after you've used Discord to discuss)
- contributing persistent information to a pull-request (please still prefer to keep chat on Discord)
- MAKING a pull-request
Do your best to figure out where to engage. And do not worry, we are trying to figure it out too.
-
If you're contributing, please align your nickname/handle on Discord with your GitHub username, and include your timezone, e.g.:
fooNickname
->myGitHubName (GMT+3)
fooNickName
->fooNickName / myGitHubName (GMT+3)
You can change this in your Discord Settings -> Profiles -> Server Profiles.

Please put things in the most sensible place. If we all do this, we are golden.
-
Code-piece (within a line of text) use ` on either end of your code
-
Code-blocks (multiline) use ```python
then ``` on a last seperate line to end the block
this way you will get beautiful syntax highlighting -

If it helps someone else, react 👍 to acknowledge you have read something

If you want to spawn a thread (and cannot) ask a community mod
-
We use Threads.
- If you're in a channel and want to see the threads, there's a #💬 icon on the top right of your Discord window.
- Click it to see all the threads for this channel
- You can JOIN a thread, to do this right click the thread and choose 'join'.
This will make the thread appear under the channel, and you can see conversation in it!
-
If you want your DMs alongside channels-view, you can use the Desktop Discord client and WebUI together (or simply multiple WebUIs windows)
We are working back towards a more accessible and inclusive developer experience. As long as this notice is here, beware that there may be things on this wiki that still need updating.
