One goal to support is to help anyone who's interested learn to code for the first time, or better, and give them an opportunity to contribute here.

To that end, here are resources for getting started with Javascript:

http://eloquentjavascript.net/ - Eloquent JavaScript: This is a book about JavaScript, programming, and the wonders of the digital.

http://javascriptissexy.com/ and especially http://javascriptissexy.com/how-to-learn-javascript-properly/ are often recommended

Motivations:

promoting computational literacy is always a great goal
more need for this made clear after reading http://modelviewculture.com/pieces/manufacturing-the-talent-shortage
