Currently my main project is Gemian, the Debian port for the Gemini PDA and Cosmo Communicator. This is a community port with the other main participants being Nikita (@NotKit), Davide (@dguidipc) and Dom (@shymega). Nikita is taking more of an advisory role just now but did most of the early work figuring out how to get the basics going. Davide is a Planet employee so helps out in various ways, recently did the Cosmo cover UI integration. Dom is mostly focused on replacing Cosmo cover UI with open source code, though I'm trying to encourage them to help out elsewhere.

I started out working on keyboard friendly apps with a personal project called GKA, eg calendar, contacts, database. But found that basic usability as a phone was lacking so ended up working on keyboard support, towards efficient sleep and porting the telephony stack from UBPorts to allow sms and calls etc.

I'm currently working through the bugs list with an eye on my sponsors priorities. This generally involves me learning how all the bits that Nikita did work, then extend/improve as needed. I also try to document interesting things on the wiki so that the information is more readily available in future.

Whilst working on the Gemini I found that Debian Buster required a newer kernel which was causing random things to fail so I spent some time trying to progress Jasper's (@Jasu) work on the mainline kernel. I didn't get very far though, recently I've been watching Hector's (@marcan) work on Asahilinux so next time around should be much better.

I'm currently living on savings and sponsorship to allow me to work on Gemian full time. The plan is to get a chunk of the Cosmo work done which will probably take us up to when its possible to start on the Astro get that to a reasonable level of usability. Then if I find any sponsors for it take appropriate fixes back to the Gemini. Then a review of the level of sponsorship and if sufficient start the possibly multi-year effort of the triple device mainline work.

10 sponsors have funded adamboardman’s work.
