A Bash script to add Ruffle to every page on a website with swf files

This script alters files automatically, so you should backup your website files before running it.

It occurs to me someone may want this script and I've never shared it. Here's a bash script to add Ruffle to every htm/html page on a website that contains swf embeds. It must be run in a website's base directory. It ignores files that don't end with .htm or .html, like JavaScript files. This script makes some assumptions, all of which are part of the sed, and the sed should be adjusted if any are false.

Assumptions:

• You want to add Ruffle before the closing body tag
  • False if you're using something like SWFObject, in which case you want to add it after the opening head tag (see here)
• The file location for ruffle.js is /js/ruffle/ruffle.js
• You want to use the configuration values autoplay: true and unmuteOverlay: hidden.
  • False if your flash files are meant to play audio without interaction; since that's not possible it'd be better to give a visual indicator that the file needs to be clicked before it will play audio
• You don't want to use any other configuration values except those two (see here)

There is also one assumption made by the grep:

• Any htm/html page which contains the exact string .swf" needs Ruffle. The quote at the end is an attempt to make it more likely that this only applies for embeds/object parameters.
  • False in a few weird cases: your website describes swfs with example documentation, your Flash files have a weird extension, or for any other reason pages which need Ruffle don't say .swf" or pages which don't need Ruffle do say .swf"
