I realised that version 1.118.0 does not pair matching brackets in a PHP file that does not contain '<?php' . This feature is not suitable for me on some files that are deliberately pieces that I assemble to make a whole during usage. The syntax highlighting starts after the string '<?php'.
The algorithm was not working this way at version 1.110.2023110716
