I have checked if others have suggested this already

  • I have checked this issue tracker to see if others have reported similar issues.

Feature description

In some scenarios, it makes sense to have the VPN only connect while the device is unlocked. This can save a good deal of battery. I've enjoyed this feature on the Riseup VPN client (available through F-Droid) and would love to see it here too.

Alternative solutions

Only turning on the VPN when certain apps are running might be even more useful, but likely more difficult to achieve.

Type of feature

  • Better privacy/anonymity
  • Better at circumventing censorship
  • Easier to use
  • Other

Operating System

  • Android
  • iOS
  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux

When you mean turn off, do you mean disable VPN and just route traffic normally or block all traffic? I guess if you turn on "Block all connections without VPN" the result is always to block all traffic.

I hope you mean "block all connections" (kill switch) automatically (but optionally).

Could be useful an on/off manually performed kill switch too (block all connections on demand).
