Location of Virtual Environment Created by 'Create Environment'

Hello all, quick question about the location of virtual environments created by the Python: Create Environment command. Is there any way to specify a different location other than .venv? Say for example ~/.virtuaenvs? If not natively, is it possible to hook into an environment creation API via a 3rd party extension (I swear I heard something like this mentioned on a python podcast)?

I completely understand and respect the design decisions mentioned in #20951, I just happen to find myself trying to balance strict corporate execution GPOs and new python users that like to click the shiny `Create Environment' button and was looking for a way to make everyone happy. Thanks for the extension, you all do great work!

Unfortunately not. This command is part of our "opinionated" workflow and our/my opinion is to keep it simple and put it into ./.venv.

You probably heard something from me on this topic on a podcast. There's nothing yet, but we have plans to provide such an API at some point (right now it's just an idea we have).

Got it. Thanks @brettcannon for the response. I will have to keep an eye out for that API, and in the mean time try to dissuade my IT overloads from using tyrannical GPOs 🤔.
