Logitech DFGT Wheel ranging issue

the setup is running on a rpi3b, emulating a xbox one pad with a logitech DFGT wheel.

all translations work fine but there is one problem: starting up gimx will reset the wheel's range to 900 degrees no matter what you set beforehand. this seems only happening on rpi. there is no such behavior on windows.

any insights or workaround suggestions are welcome.
