Motivation

Right now we aren't doing any R development, and upstream dependencies of the R package are broken. This is getting in the way of python development since releases and doc builds of R and python are linked for this project.

I think we should probably just break that connection, and manage releases of the two code-bases separately.

Definition of Done

  • We can make a release of the python package without making a release of the R package
  • We can make a build of the python docs without making a build of the R docs (fixed by Static R docsite #1294)
