They way LG labels its products makes it really difficult to provide general information. Each series contains models with different operating systems/firmwares, and they all receive different updates over time. And almost every animal in this firmware zoo has some disease in regards to channel lists.

In most cases editing the channel list works, but it's far from plug&play.

  • DO NOT TRY TO MODIFY A PREDEFINED LIST:
During installation of the TV or after a factory reset you are asked to select a cable or satellite provider. If you pick any specific provider, the TV will use a predefined list and may malfunction when you edit that list. You need to select "full", "none" or "other" and then use "Blind scan" or "Network scan" during installation. This will take longer, but produces a list that can be modified.
  • DO NOT LOAD FILES FROM OTHER MODELS OR OLDER FIRMWARE VERSIONS

Even if you follow these rules, some users report of channels being randomly moved / deleted while zapping or putting the TV in standby. Other users with the very same model report that it works like a charm.

2014-2015 Series (LB, UB)

Current firmware versions allow you to export/import channel lists from the TV's regular menu. Earlier firmware versions contained errors and were unable to load lists from USB stick. Even older firmware versions require a secret key combination to access the import/export functions: press and hold the Q-Menu button for about 8 seconds, then enter "1105" + OK.

Some models write 2 files on the stick. A model specific binary file with a name like xxLB*.TLL and a text file with a name like GlobalClone*.TLL. If both files are present, the import function will use the binary file only. If ChanSort doesn't support your particular model's binary format, you can delete the file and edit the GlobalClone file instead.

2013 Series (LA, LN)

Good news is that LG re-enabled access to the In-Start menu with regular remote controls. To get there:

  • press and hold Settings
  • wait until a popup with program information opens
  • quickly press "1105" + OK on your remote control
  • select "USB Close"

2012 Series (CS, LM, LS, PM)

LG has completely removed end-user access to the In-Start menu from the standard remote control unit and phone apps and require you to use a special service remote control. So the only way to activate the In-Start menu on the 2012/2013 models is to use a programmable remote control, like a Logitech Harmony 300 or an On-For-All URC-3920. Detailed instructions and other options can be found on openlgtv.org.ru

If you own a Logitech Harmony, add the device "LG 26LE5300-UE" to it. Models with a display show the In-Start button on page 5. On models without a display you'll have to assign the function to any of the standard buttons.

For One-For-All remotes you need to program a button to code 019, 0019 or 00019 (depending on your model).

Older series (DM, LD, LE, LH, LK, LV, LW, LX...)

With these models you can access the secret "In-Start" menu with your standard LG remote control. A nice walk-through in German language can be found on Sven Ullrich's website:

  • Press and hold the Menu/Home button on your remote until the menu disappears again.
  • While you can still see some channel information on the screen, press 1105+OK on your remote
  • Ignore the screen that pops up and press the Menu/Home button again.
  • Select the TV-Link-Loader to export/import your channel lists
