Do you want to become a Maintainer?

COGITO is my first open source / collaborative GitHub project. I'm super happy and amazed how many people have downloaded, used, shared and most of all: contributed to it, even though it's not even v1.0 yet.

As the project has grown in features and complexities, I've found myself wanting help to keep all the contributions and updates going. Quite a few contributors have added amazing features, fixed bugs, cleaned up code and even fixed my bad grammar.

I have to start focusing more on continuing development on my "main game project" again and will have less time for COGITO.
To keep the momentum going and to make sure COGITO stays updated, I'm now looking for project maintainers.

As a maintainer, you'll have the responsibility of staying true to COGITO's vision and the opportunity of shaping its future.
Okay, sales pitch aside, you'll be able to review and approve PRs and merge into main without having to run things by me. I'd appreciate the help, and would love to make COGITO truly a community effort in the spirit of open source software.

Just to keep in mind, I'll only consider people that have contributed to COGITO before, and I'll limit it to 1-2 people as a start, so we don't immediately have too many cooks in the kitchen.

However, for now I am continuing working on my own similar systems as well, so would be splitting time between the two projects. But even without maintainer status I'd continue checking PRs and participating in the discussions as much as I can.

I think most of us are working on our own projects, so between a few up us sharing the load might be more achievable

I don't expect anyone to treat this like a job - I don't treat it like one myself.
Like @ac-arcana said, this would mostly be to split the workload a bit more, especially with people that have become more familiar with the ins and outs, thus making it a bit easier for everyone.

Do we have an official Cogito vision or mission statement or something like as a document? Maybe it's already in the readme?

Anyway, I don't find much spare time to program lately, but I might be able to contribute a little if you are having a hard time finding maintainers. Just know my time is limited so some more dedicated people would be better

I'm interested in continuing to contribute in modest ways as I have been doing, and if I can take some small things off your plate that can be done myself then I welcome the task! Cogito is the foundation for what I'm currently working and we'll all benefit from its improvement, so I'd only want to take on challenges that I'm certain will contribute to it. Just to be clear, I am still learning the ropes of GitHub and Godot (relatively recent convert as a long-time Unity user) 😅. I'm a self-taught programmer (~8 years) with a background in art (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walden,_a_game) so contributions to the codebase will probably be limited.

I've been very active here since I'd want the changes I make for my own project anyway. Plus sharing features and fixes allows better bug testing, and for others to build on what I add.

@OvercastInteractive I'm in the same boat (started Cogito as kinda my first Godot and GitHub project, also came from Unity and am self-taught.
I don't expect anyone to treat this like a job, just adding more people that have a good understanding of Cogito so any changes and additions can be reviewed and implemented in a shared effort.
