We introduced support for Famplex complexes (#1181) which are a distinct Biofactoid entity type (namedComplex), appear as single nodes in the curation tool/Explorer, and importantly, are represented in BioPAX as type bp:complex with no components.
In Biofactoid, a consequence of these decisions in Biofactoid is that Famplex namedComplex entities can be included as components of complexes. Though it is conceivable that an author desire to include a namedComplex as a component of a complex, nested complexes are disallowed in BioPAX.
