It would be really great if devices could be grouped into different levels and then the high level group displayed on the Monitor page, an example would be something like. You have a load of routers and switches as well as firewalls. Each switch would be part of the group switches and routers part of routers and so forth. Then on the main monitor page within Cacti you would see just 3 groups. Switches,Routers and Firewalls. If a device within a given group is down the main group would go red and if a device within that group breaches a threshold it would go orange. Clicking on each group would then bring up the elements within that group.

That almost sounds like a Device Template. But if you started out with one device template for everything. It'd be a bit of a miss. We introduced Device Classes in 1.2.24. So, there is an option there. What do you think?
